Week Thirty Six.  Poya Day

Poya day, a Buddhist holiday, is celebrated every month in sync with the full moon. This month a rolling circus came to town. Possibly one of the most bizarre experiences. Neon Buddhas flashing, stalls selling balloons, fairy floss and mountains of flip flops. Strange creepy tunnels you enter through a giant tigers head, fighting pits and Sri Lankan’s own take on the globe of death, a wooden bowl with rusty old motor bikes and men ridding around without helmets or shoes! It’s strangeness was everything I love about Sri Lanka, always thoroughly unpredictable, a world of its own.
