GAME DAYS, LOMBOK 12/16

On a lazy afternoon a friend and I went for a cruise along the winding roads, out of the main village and West up and down the winding roads that lead to hidden surf.

On the way we saw a group of kids kicking around an old ball. We stopped and watched them, laughing and chatting with what English they had and what little Indonesian we had. It was game day, they told us. So we travelled on down the road after a while and on our return they were in the midst of a full blown soccer game. We sat with the dads and the younger kids and girls on the sideline, cheering and coaching. Sharing the joy and disappointment of each other score.

Most played barefoot, some in sarongs. It did not matter that they had the fanciest clothing or even matching team shirts. The love of the game was there and they put their heart and souls into it.
