I was mostly in a haze. After the excitement of seeing my old friends the two Marc/k’s that run the surf camp Elsewhere, here, making new friends, spending days sipping coconuts and surfing and nights dancing at the clifftop bar that looks over Weligama Bay my body went into shut down mode, and I caught the Flu that had been circling the island. For days I staying in bed living off coconuts and coconut cookies, wet towels on my head and wishing for winter. One afternoon when I had had enough of the tropical heat the skies cracked open and the rains poured down. We ran outside so grateful for this cool change and danced around like mad men. I let the rain wash away my pain and homesickness that one gets when suffering in a foreign country and embraced once again the deep greens of this land.
